Latvian – Lithuanian Cross Border Programme – 43 million assigned

EUR 43 million has already been allocated to projects under the Latvian-Lithuanian Cross-Border Cooperation Programme.

PR specialist Laura Melne informs that so far EUR 43 million (LVL 30.2 million) has been raised through three calls for proposals under the European Union (EU) co-funded program for cross-border cooperation between Latvia and Lithuania were directly aimed at promoting the development of the regions of Latvia and Lithuania in many key areas of interest to citizens.

The total co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for the projects of the program is EUR 60 million (LVL 42.1 million). 172 project applications received as part of the fourth call for proposals are currently being evaluated, and the Joint Monitoring and Steering Committee will make a decision on them at the end of November.

74 cooperation projects are currently being implemented in the areas of economic development, research, transport, the environment, culture and social affairs.

In order to strengthen cooperation between both countries, the annual event “Latvia-Lithuania: ACHIEVEMENTS” is organized within the framework of the Latvia-Lithuania program on September 22, the Day of Baltic Unity, which takes place in the border regions of Latvia and Lithuania is held and in Rokiškis in Lithuania.

As part of the event, a bus tour from Riga and Vilnius to Rokiškis will be organized to visit the places where cooperation projects are being carried out and to get acquainted with related achievements along the way.

In Rokiškis, on the other hand, it will be possible to take part in the project market in the Rokiškis regional museum, which includes presentations of project results, lectures on common topical issues for Latvia and Lithuania, demonstrations of common traditions and other activities to which all interested are welcome to participate.

At the same time, Project Open Days are taking place in all border regions of Latvia and Lithuania. On these days you can, for example, visit the simulator of sea navigation systems in the Lithuanian Naval Academy or take a bike ride along the reconstructed route from Klaipėda to Liepāja, as well as visit one of the 10 renewed craft centers in Latvia and Lithuania and learn a craft.
